Teaching Times Tables
Here at WJS, we take the importance of learning our times tables very seriously as it is a fundamental life skill needed for all areas of maths and, once mastered, has a huge impact on a child's fluency and confidence in maths.
Recently, the Government have introduced the Multiplication Timestable Check (MTC ) that children at the end of Year 4 complete, with the aim of ensuring that all 9-year-old children know all their facts up to 12 x 12. The test is completed online, covers all the timetable facts up to 12 x 12 and takes 20 minutes. The children are scored out of 25. The results of the test is then shared with Year 4 parents each year in Term 6.
To help support your child, we have created our own booklet full of ideas of ways to help teach multiplication as well as included Multiplication Flashcards for you to print off and practise with your child at home. The booklet also sets out specific milestones that your child needs to achieve in order to be able to complete the test. We also use TTRockstars as an engaging online platform for our homework.
