Kent Test

Registration for the Kent Test for children due to start secondary school in September 2024 will open on Wednesday 1 June 2023 and close at midnight on Wednesday 3rd July 2023. KCC cannot accept late registrations.

Assessment is normally done through testing during the autumn term. This year, the tests are due to take place on Thursday 7th  September 2023 for pupils in Kent primary schools, and on Saturday 9th September for other pupils. Any reference to ‘Kent Test’ or ‘registration’ does not guarantee when or if testing will take place.

If you would like to talk to your child’s class teacher about their Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT scores) and the Kent Test, you will have an opportunity to do this during the Parent Evenings on 15th and 22nd June.

A Kent Test familiarisation paper is also available on the Kent website;

https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/school-places/kent-test#tab-3.

On the same page of KCC’s website you will find a link to free resources;

https://www.gl-assessment.co.uk/products/11plus-series-11-plus-practice-papers/11plus-familiarisation-materials/ this takes you to the GL Assessment website, which the publishers have made available for the benefit of families who cannot purchase commercially-available materials.

Pupils with Additional or Special Educational Needs:

Any child with an EHC Plan who wants consideration for a grammar school place will need to register for testing by 3rd July, like other children.

If you feel your child requires any special arrangements, please do so by emailing kcollin@whitstable-junior.kent.sch.uk or calling the school office. It is then the school’s responsibility to contact the Admissions Team by 12th July 2023 to apply for comfort adjustments (such as changing the appearance of the papers or allowing for separate supervision or rest breaks) or additional time. You will then be notified of the outcome. Please note that this often takes some time before we hear from the LA and is often during the start of the Autumn term and sometimes a few days before the test.

The Admissions Team make it clear that;

“Special arrangements are not offered to enable children to get the highest score they possibly can: they are provided only where the severity of the child’s difficulties means that, though academically able, they cannot reasonably be expected to attempt the tests in standard format or under the prescribed conditions.”

Finally, should you have any questions you think I might be able to help you with please contact the school and we will do our best to support you.
