Learning today for life tomorrow

Geography

“Geography explains the past, illuminates the present and prepares us for the future. What could be more important than that?”

Michael Palin

At Whitstable Junior School, we aim to provide a curriculum that fosters a deep understanding of the world's diversity, promotes curiosity about different places, cultures, and people, and develops essential geographical skills. The intent is to inspire a love for exploring the diverse physical and human landscapes, nurturing a sense of responsibility towards the environment, global issues, and respecting cultural diversity.

Our Geography curriculum at Whitstable Junior School is designed to encourage curiosity, ensure progression, coherence, and relevance to pupils' lives, promoting a sense of place, encouraging critical thinking, spatial awareness, and the ability to communicate geographical understanding effectively. The carefully selected concepts are: location. place and space, communities and settlements, skills, fieldwork and cultural understanding are interwoven throughout the teaching and learning, allowing children the opportunity to make links between places and the impact of humans across the world.
