Design Technology
Whitstable Junior School is committed to providing a comprehensive Design and Technology (D&T) curriculum that ignites curiosity, nurtures creativity, builds resilience, and instils a deep appreciation for innovation. Through D&T, we aim to empower our learners with essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration, preparing them to thrive in the 21st-century workforce. Our intent is to cultivate a learning environment where students can explore their potential as designers, engineers and chefs developing practical skills while unleashing their imaginations. By integrating D&T into our curriculum, we seek to inspire a lifelong passion for innovation and equip our students with the tools they need to become active contributors to a rapidly changing world.
Our Aims follow the National Curriculum which aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
- build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills to design and make high-uality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
- critiue, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
- understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
These are taught through key concepts: researching, exploring, designing, making and evaluating.
